HELLO & WELCOME TO BALFRON

The community of Balfron want to show you in the next few pages something of the beautiful setting of Balfron in western Stirlingshire Scotland.

We want to share with you the place where we reside and work and relax. It is a place rich in opportunities whether in business, education or leisure. Balfron has a vibrant past. It was the location for the mill-building activities of John Dunmore a resident entrepreneur in the first wave of the industrial revolution and also the birthplace of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson the internationally famous architect. We are proud of our heritage and cherish it but we are not a community stuck in the past; a lively Community Council and a dynamic Community Futures group see to that. We shall for example grasp and develop the opportunities offered by the emerging technologies adapted to a rural setting and within a framework of traditional community values ensuring that all that we do is for the commonwealth. We intend to shape our own future by securing the balanced development of the community with scope for work and for homes. We are initiating projects which will address the needs of younger people and those of the elderly. We are preparing for the imminent establishment of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park (Scotland's first!) on our doorstep. Balfron works as a community. Join us and explore for yourself some of its attractions and find out what's on our current agenda. Let us know of your visit: record your comments or ask for more information. We are ready to listen to learn and to communicate.
