Welcome to the community website for Balfron.

I'm Stu Duffy, the Administrator for the site, taking over from the amazing work that William Douglas put in to the original site. We have a few volunteers to assist with the gathering of information but like everyone else we could do with more. If you are interested in spending a few hours a week promoting the community? So who am I? I live in Balfron! I've been involved with digital inclusion for many years, I also have the honour of creating the first community website in Scotland way back in 1990. Since then have worked in Scottish Enterprise as a Digital Champion delivering real physical projects using the internet as a tool!

Aims and Objectives

We are here for the community, plain and simple!

Local Business: We support the "Shop Local" movement . We need to make sure we support the local businesses we have otherwise we lose them and this would make the community poorer in both facilities and economically. Local Businesses are those primarily within Balfron and secondly those who serve our community in surrounding communities

Community Communications: We have started to implement a variety of communication avenues to reach both the digitally enabled and those who prefer other means. Through on and off line Newsletter and a text alert system where we can reach those with older phones.

Digital Inclusion: Support and enhance the reach of local groups by acting as a first point of access to their website/social media but also provide a free page that they can advertise their activities. We can also build a website for you using Google Workplace or Squarespace, along with a domain name, our domain name is balfron.org.uk. This is seen as a starter and we are happy to pass along web developers who can help build your digital presence.

Volunteers

We have a few intrepid volunteers in the team and we are looking for more volunteers to help develop the website to meet the needs of the community.

Time spent is completely up to you, you can take a section and develop it or just generally get info as it crops up. No pressure!
